Looking for info on the history of parenting?

I have been a parent for 3 years and I often think about what parenting would have been like for people living in 1800's, 1700's..even the 1600's. Is anyone aware of a book, preferably written by a woman (since historically women were the primary caregivers), that discussed the basics of parenting is those time periods? The main subject of the book does not have to be about being a parent, but one that writes about parental situations alongside of the main plot. Looking for info on the history of parenting?
There's a book ';Restoration London'; by Liza Picard which focuses on the 1600's but it's fantastic, it features on everyday life and it has a bit of everything including the topic you are interested in.
